About Office Chair Guide

Independent, practical advice on choosing, using, and maintaining office chairs — written for people who sit for a living.

Our story

Office Chair Guide started with a complaint and a warehouse. The complaint was mine: after five years as an IT engineer, I had spent more of my working life in an office chair than in my bed, and I still had no idea what separated a good one from an expensive one. Every product page said "ergonomic." None of them explained what that meant.

The warehouse belongs to my family, who run a furniture business. It turned out the answers I wanted were sitting in supplier specification sheets, in the difference between a Class 3 and Class 4 gas cylinder, in whether a base was reinforced nylon or thin moulded plastic — details that never make it onto a product listing. Once you can pick up the components and read the specifications, the marketing language stops mattering.

This site is where we write that down. Our aim is simple: explain office chairs the way we would explain them to a friend who asked, with the specifics included and the jargon removed.

Who we are

Three of us write this site. We all work in IT, we are all partners in a family furniture business in Pune, and we have all spent more of our lives in office chairs than we would like to add up. The furniture side gives us access to components, supplier specifications, and a steady supply of chairs that have gone wrong — which turns out to be the most useful research material there is.

Rushikesh Bansode

Founder & Lead Writer · Pune, India

Rushikesh is an IT engineer with five years at a desk and a family background in the furniture trade. He writes most of our buying and components guides, drawing on supplier specifications and hands-on access to chair parts through the family business.

He works from a medium-back ergonomic mesh chair with adjustable height and fixed armrests — a setup that taught him first-hand why fixed armrests are the compromise most people regret, and why mesh is worth it through a Pune summer.

Aniket Likhite

Contributing Writer

Aniket works in IT and is a partner in the family furniture business. That combination puts him at a desk all day and in a warehouse at weekends, which is where most of our repair guides start — usually with a chair someone has written off as broken.

He writes our maintenance and repair coverage, and has more patience than the rest of us for the part of the job where a seized gas cylinder refuses to come out of the base.

Prabhu Singh

Contributing Writer

Prabhu works in IT and is a partner in the furniture business alongside Aniket and Rushikesh. After years of long days at a screen, he became the person in the group who actually reads the ergonomics research rather than guessing.

He writes our ergonomics and workstation guides, working from published guidance rather than opinion, and is the reason those articles keep pointing readers towards a physiotherapist instead of pretending a chair can fix everything.

How we work

We research from component specifications and published seating standards such as BIFMA X5.1 and EN 1335 rather than from product marketing, and we reference recognised ergonomic guidance — including the Cornell University Ergonomics Web and OSHA's computer workstation guidance — for anything involving posture and workstation setup.

Our full editorial policy sets out our sourcing standards, how we handle health and safety topics, and how to report an error.

What we cover

  • Buying Guides — how to compare chairs, materials, and features so you spend your money well.
  • Ergonomics — how to set up your chair, desk, and monitor to protect your posture.
  • Maintenance — how to clean, repair, and extend the life of the chair you already own.
  • Components — how each part works, from casters to gas cylinders.

A note on health topics

Several of our guides discuss back pain, posture, and discomfort. None of us is a doctor or physiotherapist, and nothing on this site is medical advice. We keep that guidance general and comfort-focused, and we consistently recommend seeing a qualified professional for anything persistent or severe.
